Privacy
This site sets no cookies, loads nothing from third parties and counts its visitors itself, without knowing who they are. There is nothing to consent to, so there is no banner. You are free to leave at any time, which is more than most of our brands can say.
What the browser stores
Nothing. No cookies, no local storage, no identifiers. Close the tab and your visit leaves no trace beyond the ordinary browser cache. We know this is not how the rest of the internet treats you. We are not the rest of the internet; we are worse in other ways.
What is loaded
Every file on this site, including the fonts and the 3D library that renders the cards, comes from this domain, and your browser fetches nothing from any other domain: no fonts from elsewhere, no third-party analytics, no ads. Cloudflare delivers it; more on that below. For a few minutes, nobody is watching you; we only count. Enjoy it; it does not last.
How we count visits
We count visits ourselves, on our own server in Frankfurt, without cookies and without anyone else's tools. We note which pages you read and whether you read them to the end, where the visit came from (the domain of the link and any campaign tags in the address, so-called UTM), the type of device, the country, and how fast the site loaded. We do not store your IP address. Visits from the same day are recognised by a fingerprint that changes every day, computed from your IP address and browser identification, neither of which is stored; it cannot tell us who you are, nor link two days together. A message to the founder is never linked to the count.
Individual records are deleted after 90 days and disappear from backups at most four weeks later; only daily totals stay. We do this because we want to know whether anyone reads this at all, which is our legitimate interest. You can object; the terminal is the way.
Messages to the founder
Somewhere in the terminal there is a way to write to the founder. It is not hard to find, but it is not on the menu either. Nothing is sent until you type yes.
Then the message goes to this domain and nowhere else. We store two or three things: what you typed, the date, and an e-mail address, but only if you chose to leave one for a reply. Your browser sends the usual technical details with any request, such as your IP address and browser name. They are used to deliver the message and are not stored. No cookie is set.
Messages are read only by the founder. They are deleted automatically one year after they were written. The database keeps a technical backup for up to 30 days, so a deleted message is gone for good at most a month later. If you want yours deleted sooner, say so in another message; we will believe you.
What the server logs
The web server keeps a short access log to detect abuse and errors. IP addresses are truncated before they are written (the last part of an IPv4 address and the second half of an IPv6 address are dropped), so a line in the log cannot be traced back to a person. The log is deleted after about a week, which is longer than some of our brands lasted.
Who handles the data
The site runs behind Cloudflare, which carries every request and stores the messages for us, as our processor, in a database restricted to the EU. Cloudflare sees your IP address to deliver the page and keep attacks out. Our server receives it only in a request header, which is dropped before anything is written; we never store it. Cloudflare is a US company; transfers outside the EU rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. The web server itself is rented from DigitalOcean, in a data centre in the EU, and holds only the truncated log and the visit count.
Why, and your rights
Delivering the site through Cloudflare, keeping attacks out and the truncated log all serve the security of the site, which is our legitimate interest. Messages are stored because you sent one and said yes; that is your consent, and you can withdraw it by asking us to delete the message.
You can ask what we hold about you, receive a copy of your message, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its use. The terminal is the way to ask. You can also complain to the Czech data protection authority, ÚOOÚ (uoou.gov.cz).
Who runs this
Brands of Doom is a personal satire project run by a private individual in the Czech Republic. Every brand on it is fictional, every image generated by AI, every idea the product of a troubled human mind. Want to contact us? Try to guess an e-mail address. Or maybe the terminal on the front page can help you. Answers are not guaranteed; nothing here is.
